Shroom and Gloom ending
Players who beat the Gloom Worm describe a door, a death they could not avoid, and an achievement that often fails to appear. The developers have not explained any of it, so this page keeps what players saw apart from what they guess.

What players report after the fight
The most detailed account is a thread titled, in Chinese, roughly: beat the final boss twice, opened the door at the end, died the moment I went in, what’s going on (in Steam discussion: 打了两遍最终boss,尽头一开门,一进去就死了,咋回事?, 11 September 2026). In order:
The Gloom Worm dies
The thread opens with a player who has beaten the final boss twice and still ends up dead.
One more door
Past the boss there is a door. Another player sums the finale up as taking the mushroom key, walking through that door and being eaten, and asks whether that is really it.
Eaten, every time
One player reports four attempts with the same result: through the door, eaten, game over, with a short line of text about the meal being cooked just right. A second life did not help either.
Another reply adds that a guaranteed death at the end really hurts the experience. English-speaking players describe the same fight differently: one who beat what they took to be the Gloom Worm counts it as a win that unlocked new cards, characters and maps, just without the achievement (in Steam discussion: No Achievement For Beating game?!?!, 10 September 2026).
The theories
These are guesses from players. None has been confirmed.
Player theory
The worm can be beaten for real
A player named saya points to the hidden achievement for killing the Gloom Worm as a sign it can be beaten, and guesses it involves the frog Foresight found behind a hidden door partway along the path. The player who got eaten four times answers that they had taken that frog Foresight, plus a second life, and it made no difference. saya replies that something else may be hidden, since an achievement for the worm exists at all, and a later reply points out that some players do hold it (in Steam discussion: 打了两遍最终boss,尽头一开门,一进去就死了,咋回事?, 11 September 2026).
Player theory
A hidden boss behind the door
Earlier in the same thread a player agrees the ending is getting eaten, then adds there may be a hidden boss, noting the game is still in Early Access. The launch announcement does promise hidden things without saying what: “Secrets! The less said here the better” (in Steam announcement: Shroom and Gloom explodes into Early Access!, 10 September 2026).
Player theory
The real ending isn’t in the game yet
Asked whether there is an ending yet, one player on the English forum answered that a whole area is missing, so there is no ending yet (in Steam discussion: Is there an ending yet?, 11 September 2026). The official side of that is the developers’ plan to “eventually open up the third and final pathway to The Gloom” (in Steam announcement: Shroom and Gloom explodes into Early Access!, 10 September 2026), without saying where it leads.
Gloom Slayer and the missing achievement
Gloom Slayer has no public description on Steam, and Steam’s internal name for it is FLAG_KILL_GLOOMWORM (in Steam Web API: global achievement percentages for Shroom and Gloom, 13 September 2026). Steam credits it to 0.1% of players. That number does not tell you how many have seen the door: one player writes that they have beaten the worm three more times since their first win and still have no achievement (in Steam discussion: No Achievement For Beating game?!?!, 10 September 2026), and another asked the developers whether the last boss they killed, who looks like the Gloom Slayer artwork, was the right one. The answer was that achievements sometimes fail to fire and a fix is coming (Team Lazerbeam, replying in Steam discussion: Achievements bugged?, 13 September 2026).
So if you walk through the door and get no achievement, you have not necessarily missed a secret. Whether Gloom Slayer asks for anything beyond killing the worm is not known. The full list of hidden achievements is on the achievements page.
The ending in the demo
The demo had an ending of its own, which is worth knowing if you are comparing notes with a demo player. The update that brought reworked exploration to the demo listed a “New ending event for players that can reach The Gloom!” (in Steam announcement: Huge demo update! Early Access release announced! Shroom and Gloom Jun Dev Log!, 7 June 2026) The demo is a different build, and the developers haven’t said whether that event matches what Early Access players now meet.
