Foresight in Shroom and Gloom

Every character begins a run with a Foresight card, and the developers say it changes how that character plays. Past that starting card, most of what is known comes from the demo’s patch notes and from players, so this page keeps the three apart.

The one official line on Early Access Foresight

The launch announcement gives every character “unique starting decks for both combat and explore, plus a base Foresight card that changes how they play.” That sentence is the whole official description for the current build. Who those characters are, and how each one unlocks, is on the characters page.

How Foresight got here

These are the official mentions of Foresight in order, starting with the prototype’s passive deck:

WhenBuildWhat Team Lazerbeam wrote
September 2024PrototypeThe team wrote that they “added a 3rd deck of passive cards (planned to be unlockable metaprogression rewards)” (in Team Lazerbeam devlog on itch.io: We did it! Shroom and Gloom Prototype is here!, 13 September 2024). That post does not use the word Foresight.
May 2025Demo 0.4.58The demo added a button to view your foresight cards (listed in Team Lazerbeam devlog on itch.io: Shroom and Gloom drops new demo, announce Devolver as publisher, bursts onto Steam! May 2025, 27 May 2025).
August 2025Demo 0.4.75Foresight got its own card base and banner, and a Foresight called Spring into action was fixed after it “was drawing Fly kicks and no other cards” (patch notes in Steam announcement: 80K Wishlists, Demo update and NorthernLion! Shroom and Gloom Aug 2025 Dev Log!, 19 August 2025).
February 2026DemoBeating the demo let you draft one Foresight card from your winning build into the pool of a starting Foresight chest (Team Lazerbeam, replying in Steam discussion: Meta Progression, 12 February 2026).
September 2026Early AccessEach of the five characters starts with a base Foresight card (announced in Steam announcement: Shroom and Gloom explodes into Early Access!, 10 September 2026).

Treat every row before September 2026 as coming from before Early Access. The draft chest in particular belonged to the demo, and the developers have said nothing from the demo carries over into the full game (replying in Steam discussion: Does demo progress transfer to the full game?, 12 September 2026). The demo page covers what else changed.

Finding more during a run

The developers have not said where extra Foresight comes from in Early Access. What players report so far:

  • Rare. One reviewer calls them “gold cards called foresights that are basically relics. They are powerful but very rare in the game” (in a Steam user review, 13 September 2026).
  • Too few. Another reviewer says there seems to be a lack of Foresight in the game (in a Steam user review, 13 September 2026).
  • Behind a hidden door. On a Chinese-language thread about the ending, players mention a Foresight found with a frog behind a hidden door partway along the path. One says they took it and their ending did not change (in Steam discussion: 打了两遍最终boss,尽头一开门,一进去就死了,咋回事?, 11 September 2026). What happens after the final boss is on the ending page.

Building around it

Players giving build advice treat Foresight as the thing a deck should lean into. Advising someone stuck on the Janitor, one wrote: “whatever ur FORESIGHTs are lean heavy into it”, with the example of a Foresight that makes extra Gunk and triggering it every round (in Steam discussion: Love the game, hate the janitor, 11 September 2026). On another thread a player mentions a Foresight that multiplies Gunk healing when you kill an enemy with a gunked weapon (in Steam discussion: Janitor needs healing potential, 12 September 2026). Neither card is named, and both are player reports. Gunk itself is explained on the cards page.
